Santo to the HoF?

Dugout Central -- Allen, Santo and Torre To Get The Call Monday:

"According to a source close to the situation, the Veteran’s Committee will on Monday announce that Dick Allen, Ron Santo and Joe Torre have been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame."

Emphasis mine, but it shouldn't have taken this long.

Update: Nope. Missed it by 14%, and none of the players listed above got in.

I still believe

As a Cubs fan, I know all about wait till next year. Still fourth in the Prem and an own goal away from the Champions League final. Not a bad season all in all. Now I will type something that makes me throw up a little in my mouth.

Go Chelsea. Beat ManU and give that old Ruski owner of yours some silver on his home turf.

YNWA.

PS -- Rafa keep your yap shut about Diver Drogba next year. I didn't like him when he was angry. Best to keep him diving.

Life in Hell

Where the Cubs have been at the All-Star Break in previous playoff seasons. Looks good actually, but being a Cubs fan is still hell... except when its heaven. It's all got to do with whether or not they hang a certain flag from a certain post.

Life in Hell

Dear Ryan Dempster,

Blake from the downtown office would like a word:

Because (say it with me) coffee is for closers Ryan Dempster. Closers.

Steve Goodman

On September 20, 1984, Goodman died at University of Washington Hospital in Seattle, Washington , the leukemia from which he had anointed himself with the tongue-in-cheek nickname "Cool Hand Leuk" (others included "Chicago Shorty" and "The Little Prince") finally taking his life. He was only 36. Eleven days later, the Chicago Cubs, the baseball team Goodman rooted for and wrote two songs about, played their first playoff game since 1945. Goodman's ashes are buried under home plate at Wrigley Field.

They didn't make the playoffs in his lifetime. That's about the saddest thing that I know.
